Creative Movers 2-7

Jo Ann Warren Studio offers a variety of styles for tiny dancers. Under the care and guidance of the finest instructors assisted by advanced teenage student girls and boys are taught the beginning basics. Young students receive special, gentle individual attention by professional adult teachers. Class size is limited in our recreational program.

All Creative Mover students are welcome to participate in our annual recital (and they usually steal the show!).

  • Little Movers – (ages 2-3, 30 minutes) This class is an introduction to dance and creative movement in a fun yet structured recreational atmosphere. Students will utilize dance props and song to work balance, stretch and team work.
  • Preschool Combo (I/II) – (ages 3-4, 45 minutes)This is a combination class consisting of ballet and tap. Students will be introduced to the basics of both dance disciplines in a fun yet structured environment.
  • Kinderdance Combo – (ages 5-7, 1 hour) This is a combination class consisting of ballet and tap. A student’s education of basic movement and terminology will be challenged, strengthened and broadened through across-the-floor and combinations.
  • Tumblers – (ages 4-7, 30 minutes) Using soft equipment such as mats, tunnels, cones and foam beams, along with energetic, upbeat music, preschoolers will acquire balance, spatial awareness, and confidence in a caring and safe environment.
  • Groovers- (ages 5-7 30 minutes) introduces students to hip hop dance technique which offers freestyle movement and expression while improving balance, coordination and flexibility as students learn beginning isolations and footwork of popping and locking.

Primary (6-9)

At Jo Ann Warren Studio (JAWS), our mission is to guide students towards a lifelong love for the performing arts. In our Primary classes, boys and girls may choose from a wide variety of age-appropriate (ages 6-9) class offerings. A professional adult instructor is in charge of making each lesson fun, structured, and educational.

Each Primary class consists of a recreational warmup to improve stretch and strength, then movement across the floor to develop musicality, and center work for technique, continued progress and performance skills. Dancers learn confidence, discipline, respect, creativity, and artistry.

  • Primary I – (ages 6-9, 1 ½ hour) This is a combination class consisting of ballet, tap, and hip hop. Students will be taught the essentials of each discipline in a fun yet structured environment.
  • Musical Theatre + Voice – (ages 6+, 30 minutes) This class will explore a performer’s creative depths with a combination class of vocals and theatre. Students will gain confidence on stage.
  • Jazz- (ages 6-9, 30 minutes) Primary Jazz is a high energy class that teaches jazz technique. Dancers will learn leaps, kicks, and jumps. They will also learn how to incorporate style to their movement all while developing strength, stamina, and flexibility.
  • Hip Hop- (ages 6-9, 30 minutes) Primary Hip Hop introduces students to hip hop dance technique which offers freestyle movement and expression while improving balance, coordination and flexibility as students learn beginning isolations and footwork of popping and locking.
  • Tumble – (ages 6-9, 45 minutes) Primary Tumble is the fusion of dance technique with the precision and athleticism of tumbling. Students gain flexibilty, balance, muscle control, and above all learn discipline and concentration becoming instantly proud of their new-found skills.

Secondary (9-12)

  • Ballet – (ages 9+, 1 hour) Ballet is the foundation for all dance genres. Classes are designed to build strong technique that is essential to other dance forms. Students will be educated and challenged to continually grow and develop their technique and vocabulary. Ballet classes will also develop proper body alignment, strength, flexibility, grace, balance, poise, and musicality. As students become advanced, pointe work may be incorporated.
  • Tap – (ages 9+, 30 mins) Tap is a percussive form of dance using the feet. Tap shoes are worn to produce sound through movement. Classes focus on rhythm, precision and musicality. Students will develop coordination and a great sense of rhythm.
  • Jazz – (ages 9+, 45mins) Jazz dance includes high energy classes that allow dancers to step outside their comfort zone. Dancers learn leaps, turns, kicks, and jumps, as well as other jazz technique. In jazz classes, students learn to incorporate style to their movement and develop strength, stamina, and flexibility.
  • Tumble -(ages 9+, 1 hour ) Tumble combines classical dance with acrobatic moves. Acro teaches flexibility, strength, balance, muscle control, concentration and discipline.
  • Hip Hop – (ages 9+, 30 mins) Hip hop is an urban dance style that is done to hip hop music. This is a fun and high energy dance form that has grown in popularity. Students explore the freedom of movement and develop rhythm, coordination, and musicality. Age appropriate music is always selected for every level.
  • Contemporary – (ages 9+, 45 minutes) This class is a great transition class for those with combination class experience, or pre-teens and teens in conjunction with ballet. Contemporary dance draws on both classical ballet, modern, theatrical, and concert dance employing a special technique for developing the use of the entire body in movements expressive of abstract ideas.

Teen (12+)

JAWS offers beginner through pre-professional level classes for dancers 12 and over. Highly qualified professional instructors teach class keeping in mind each individual student’s expectations and goals.

Our choreographers and teachers bring the most up-to-date material in every recreational class. Teen students are continuously challenged in technique, performance skills, and artistry.

Private lessons are available and scheduled individually through the office.

  • Ballet (Ages 12+, 1 hour): This advanced class focuses on developing technical proficiency and artistic expression through classical ballet techniques. Teens will work on strength, flexibility, and precision while learning intricate choreography.
  • Tap (Ages 12+, 30 minutes): This class emphasizes advanced tap techniques and rhythms. Dancers will refine their footwork and timing, exploring complex combinations and developing a strong sense of rhythm.
  • Jazz (Ages 12+, 45 minutes): This class explores advanced jazz techniques, including dynamic movements and energetic choreography. Emphasis is placed on style, musicality, and performance quality, with a focus on developing individual expression.
  • Tumble (Ages 12+, 1 hour): Aimed at more experienced students, this class teaches advanced tumbling skills and acrobatics. It includes a structured warm-up, skill progression, and choreography, with a focus on technique and safety.
  • Hip Hop (Ages 12+, 30 minutes): This class dives into advanced hip hop styles, incorporating intricate footwork, isolations, and freestyle elements. Teens will learn to execute complex movements and develop their own style and creativity.
  • Contemporary (Ages 12+, 45 minutes): This class blends elements of modern, ballet, and improvisational dance to explore expressive movement. It focuses on developing fluidity, dynamic range, and emotional expression through contemporary choreography.
